Israeli strikes on Gaza: global community role urged to weed out terrorism

07 Jan, 2009

Minister of State for Communication Imtiaz Safdar Warraich has expressed Pakistan's concern over the Israeli strikes on Gaza and said that global community needed to play its role collectively to weed out terrorism so as to make the world a safer place.
Talking to PTV in "Good Morning Pakistan", he said: "The government of Pakistan has condemned Israeli ground and Air attacks. We think it is unjustified and must be stopped immediately". About Mumbai attacks, he said that Pakistan desires peace because peace was in the best interest of both sides, adding that Pakistan was ready to cooperate with India to expose elements responsible for the terrorist attacks in Mumbai, but for that purpose India should provide hard evidence.
Safdar urged for the active co-operation of politicians, members of civil society, media and people from every walk of life to play their due role in curbing the menace of extremism and militancy, which is weakening the very social fabric of the society.
He also appreciated the role of Pakistani media and said, "Pakistani media is very responsible as compared to the Indian media." He maintained that media should be given freedom but with some code of conduct. Safdar concluded that the journalists and the government should work in co-operation to avoid ambiguities that could damage our national interest.
