The average price of Bangladesh teas rose 0.73 percent to 123.24 taka ($1.79) per kg at the weekly auction on Tuesday, brokers said. Over 1.53 million kg were sold at 123.24 taka per kg on average, up 0.89 taka from the last sale. The withdrawal percentage was 5.80. Buyers from Pakistan and Bangladesh including exporters, mainly for the Commonwealth of Independent States participated in the auction.
"There was a strong demand in this week's sale following competition among international buyers," said a market report from the National Brokers Limited, the country's largest tea broker. Different grades were sold between 80 taka and 166 taka per kg. The next weekly auction will be held on January 13 with some 1.45 million kg on offer.
