Government prioritising textile sector: minister

Federal Minister for Textile has said that the industry is the backbone of the country and economy is dependent on this sector, as it is providing 4million jobs to the people. In a statement issued on Saturday, he said that the government is giving top priority to this industry to make it more vibrant.
The Minister said that concrete measures have been taken to ensure constant supply of energy to textile industry. 'Wapda authorities have been directed to ensure sustainable power supply to textile industry,' he added. The Minister also observed that President Asif Ali Zardari has taken serious note of the situation and directed the SNGPL authorities that 20 mmcfd of gas to each of the textile industry situated in Lahore and Faisalabad should be ensured.
Further, 'Wapda and the SNGPL authorities have confirmed that concrete measures have been taken to combat load shedding in the textile sector. They also confirmed that situation will improve during next 10 days,' he added.
