US MIDDAY: wheat plunges

13 Jan, 2009

Chicago Board of Trade March wheat futures fell the 60-cent-per-bushel trading limit on Monday following the US Agriculture Department's release of data that showed larger-than-expected 2008/09 ending stocks. Volume was thin during midday trading, which allowed the market to test the limit before edging up, a trader said.
At 11:21 am CST (1721 GMT), the March wheat contract was down 58-1/2 cents at $5.71 a bushel.
