Punjab government is spending Rs 3.63 billion during the current fiscal year on conversion of 144 schools across the province into 'Centre of Excellence'. Official sources told Business Recorder on Thursday that under the programme, latest education and modern facilities would be created in these schools.
While 11,000 orphans and deserving male and female students would be provided with education and accommodation facilities in 72 schools of Punjab. The sphere of this programme would gradually be expanded through Punjab. Besides, two schools would also be established at each tehsil headquarter for orphan male and female students.
Sources further revealed that the government has decided to start free air-conditioned school bus service for the poor students to mitigate their problems. Initially, these air-conditioned buses were introduced in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Bahawalpur and DG Khan, sources added.
