16 Jan, 2009

As many as 50,000 bags of urea fertiliser has been sold to the farmers at fixed price in his constituency, said Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Dr Muhammad Akhtar Malik on Thursday. He said the government had taken stringent action on the reports of black-marketing of urea fertilizer, which was badly needed by the farmers for their wheat crop.
Talking to a delegation of growers, the MPA said the PPP was fully alive to the needs of the growers and the importance of the agriculture sector as it was the bastion of our national economy. He said the government had ensured availability of urea fertilizer at controlled price of Rs 670 per bag.
"If he receives any complaint of overcharging he will recommend stern action to the law-enforcement agencies against the delinquent," he added. He said he had requested the high-ups of the utility stores corporation to increase quota of urea fertilizer for the district of Multan so that farmers could harvest a good wheat crop.
