GCU vice chancellor meets Iranian University delegation

'We are quality producer and we believe in quality education for which we are committed,' the Vice Chancellor, Government College University (GCU) Lahore, Professor Khalid Aftab said. He was welcoming the four-member delegation led by the VC of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, Iran, Dr Ali Raza Ashori in his Committee room.
The GCU VC said that there should be academic collaboration between Iranian and Pakistani Universities particularly, with regard to exchange of teachers and students in different fields. Further, he emphasised the need of establishing academic links with Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, Iran in various fields such as Economics, Literature and Science.
While mentioning the eminent personalities, Professor Aftab said that successful people from all walks of life including Nobel Laureates Dr Hargobind Khorana and Dr Abdul Salam had their association with this premium institution. He also said that Pakistan needed a good number of mathematicians and experts in various sectors of the national economy for its development.
It was for this reason that the GCU established the Abdus Salam School of Mathematical Sciences in collaboration with the government, people and academicians interested in promoting mathematics among the students of Pakistan.
'We want to promote bilateral relation with the GCU and for this purpose we will exchange scholars and PhD students of various academic fields,' Dr Ashori said. Both the VCs elaborated academic and research programmes of their respective universities and showed keen interest in strengthening academic links in the field of Mathematics, Physics and English.
