THE RUPEE: mixed trend

20 Jan, 2009

Rates move both ways on the currency market on Monday in process of trading, dealers said. On the interbank market, the rupee was sharply down by 25 paisa for buying at 79.60 and it also lost 27 for selling at 79.65, they said. Strong demand for dollars, pushed the rupee into minus column and if the supply not improves the rupee may face further downward revision, they added.
The dollar and the yen fell on Monday as Asian shares tracked US stocks higher on hopes for bold economic measures from the incoming US administration, further reducing safe-haven flows into the currencies.
