Ten die as heavy rains lash Punjab

Ten persons were buried on Monday who died in rain-related mishaps in Bahawalnagar, Multan and Khanewal on Sunday. At least ten persons died in yesterday's rain, six in Rampura (Bahawalnagar district), two in Jalalpur Pirwala (Multan) and two in Khanewal district.
According to details, a mother and her five children died early on Sunday when the roof of their room collapsed due to heavy rain in the Rampura village, 15 kms off Bahawalnagar. Nazir Ahmad Chohan, his wife Faizan Bibi, and their nine children were asleep when the roof of their house caved in. The children, Waseem, Wakeel, Shamim, Ume Kalsoom, Ume Aminah, and their mother died on the spot while Nazir and his daughter, Yasmeen, were injured. The other three children, Adeel, Naseem and Saleem, were rescued by neighbours.
Nazir and his daughter were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital, where they have been reported to be in a stable condition. In Jalalpur Pirwala, two children Zubair (5) and Samina (4) died while their father Khadim Hussain and uncle Allah Ditta sustained injuries as the roof caved in due to heavy downpour. Two died in Khanewal District. One has been identified as Mohsin (7) and other remains unidentified.
