Sharp recovery was seen on the interbank market on Friday as the rupee gained 55 paisa against dollar for buying and selling at 79.30 and 79.40, dealers said. The rupee was able to show its muscles on the back of slight increase in supply of dollars, they said.
Amid final session yen held firm against major currencies lingering concerns about the global banking sector and economic fears. Trade was subdued and investors appeared mainly to be adjusting positions given few major economic events ahead of the weekend and the Chinese New Year holidays next week.
