Former Punjab Governor Malik Ghulam Mustafa Khar has said that Present regime had given the credit of ouster of General Pervez Musharraf to US Vice President Joe-Biden neglecting the civil society, lawyers and politicians. Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani had slapped on the face of nation by saying that American Vice President had played his role in doffing of uniform of Pervez Musharraf.
Talking to this correspondent on Friday Khar said the present democratic government is a result of the lawyers' movement and not because of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). Khar said the government was incapable of resolving the country's electricity & gas crisis, something that could not be resolved by any previous governments for decades.
He said supremacy of the judiciary could not be achieved in the country unless the lawyers' movement succeeded in achieving its goal. He expressed willingness to participate in the lawyers' movement to show his support for the reinstatement of sacked chief justice.
Khar bitterly criticised the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Punjab President Rana Aftab and Punjab Information Secretary Dr Fakhruddin who, according to him, had joined hands with the killers of Benazir and serving as toadies. They were not sincere to Bhutto family nor to the nation.
Khar said that PML-N leadership or he had no undemocratic agenda but they had an agenda of prosperity, stability, integrity of Pakistan. Khar was of the view that remnants of dictatorship were main hurdles in the way of true democracy. He said that Naheed Khan and Senator Safdar Abbasi were being victimised because both were close to Benazir Bhutto.
Khar said what a pity that all those who distributed sweetmeat and meals on the hanging of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto are now in power. Rehmn Malik was a personal assistant to Chaudhry Zahur Elahi at that time, Asif Zardari and his father Hakim Zardari were members of ANP, Babur Awan was in Jamaat Islami.
Gilani and Qureshi were with General Zia-ul-Haq. He alleged that Governor Punjab was trying to trap the (PML-N), (PML-Q) leadership and was creating distances between the two parties. He said Salman Taseer's agenda was to destabilise the democratic process in the country.
