Shortage and efficient utilisation of irrigation water and deficiency of energy were the main challenges being faced by the nation and he called upon the engineers to put their expertise in place to meet out these challenges of immediate nature for the development and prosperity of the nation.
Senior Sindh Minister for Education Pir Mazharul Haq said while addressing the 11th Convocation of Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) Jamshoro that was held at its main campus on Saturday. Minister for Education said that great responsibilities were lying with the engineers of the country to make the policies of present government for the development of the country as success by utilisation of natural resources in efficient manners.
He added that Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto had given top priority to education in her manifesto as such present government was spending more and paying full attention towards the education sector and specially encouraging the higher education in the country. He stressed upon the teaching community and students to work hard and achieve the expertise and standard knowledge, needed for the development and prosperity of the country.
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor MUET Professor Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan Rajput in his welcome address said that due to high performances Mehran University has earned its position as number one in Sindh Province and number two in the public sector engineering universities of Pakistan. He said that the enrolment of the University has been increased from 2,692 in 2004 to 5,200 in 2007 while some disciplines like telecommunication engineering have been added.
As many as 519 students of the MUET Jamshoro were conferred Bachelor of Engineering, Master of Engineer, M.Phil and Ph.D degrees at its Convocation. 7 students received gold medals as top of the faculty and best graduates and 14 students (first position holders) were awarded silver medals during the proceedings. The Sindh Senior Minister for Education Pir Mazharul Haq presented the medals, awards, and certificates to the successful graduates.
