29 Jan, 2009

Malaysian share prices rose 0.8 percent on Wednesday, taking the lead from firmer regional markets, dealers said. The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index rose 6.94 points to close at 879.63, with 232 advancing stocks outnumbering 144 decliners.
"Local funds were selectively accumulating some blue chips and index linked issues while some aggressive retail players punted on lower-liners and small-cap stocks," a dealer told Dow Jones Newswires. Among major stocks, IOI Corp gained 1.6 percent to 3.74 ringgit, Sime Darby rose 2.8 percent to 5.50 ringgit and DiGi.com edged up 1.0 percent to 20.90 ringgit.
