Inter-provincial meeting decision: LG system to be retained with some structural reforms

An inter-provincial meeting of local government ministers chaired by federal minister for local government, Abdul Razaq Thahim on Tuesday agreed to keep intact the local government system but with some structural reforms. The federal minister told newsmen after the meeting that local governments system would also be introduced in Fata and federal Capital.
He said that the Prime Minister would decide in consultation with all the political parties whether to hold next local bodies elections on party or non-party basis. Sindh minister for local government, Agha Siraj Durrani said that the government would soon give good news to people of the province by reinstating commissioner system. Punjab local government minister said that their government is only probing the misappropriation in the province. The meeting was also attended by Balochistan local minister besides official of the ministry of interior.
