06 Feb, 2009

Lahore High Court (LHC) has accepted the appeal of a condemned lady prisoner Nasreen Bibi and acquitted her from charge of murdering two brothers of her husband by giving them a poisonous meal here on Thursday.
The court by giving her benefit of doubt acquitted her from the charges. Nasreen from Gujranwala jail, detained with her infant girl moved an application to Chief Justice LHC Syed Zahid Hussain seeking her acquittal.
The case against her was lodged on the complaint of her father-in-law Meraj Din. He alleged that on abatement of her brothers Abdul Ghafoor, Abdul Majeed and Mohammad Bashir she mixed pesticide in the ghee with which she cooked the meal and served to her husband Jaffar Hussain and other family members as they were living in a joint family. The poisonous meal made all three male and five ladies of the family unconscious and ultimately caused death of Liaqat Ali and Arif Hussain.
