The Senate Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting Monday recommended that the government should immediately retaliate Indian propaganda moves by clamping ban on all news and entertainment Indian television channels.
According to sources, the committee asked the information ministry and Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) to ban all Indian channels telecast on cable in the country immediately.
Cable operators may soon have to black out airing Indian channels as the Senate Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting has recommended a ban on all Indian channels being telecast by the cable operators across the country, sources said.
The standing committee has asked the government to immediately ban the Indian TV channels from being aired in Pakistan, amidst rising tension between both the countries after Mumbai strikes. The committee has recommended that the Indian government had even banned the books of Pakistani authors, so Pakistan should also give a tit- for-tat reply to the India.
The committee also recommended that screening of Bollywood movies by the cable operators along with theatres should be stopped forthwith. Sources said that the reason behind closure of Indian TV channel is to make New Dehli realise that it will not succeed in promoting anti-Pakistan propaganda being harped after Mumbai attacks.
