Saarc to discuss steps for enhancing economic cooperation

Saarc Commerce secretaries will discuss measures in enhancing economic co-operation in the region during the two-day meeting of Council of Economic Co-operation beginning here on Tuesday. Talking to newsmen on arrival here on Monday evening, Suleman Ghani, Commerce Secretary said the agenda of the meeting includes discussion on sensitive list, improving infrastructure and harmonisation of tariff among Saarc countries.
The Safta related issues will also be discussed during the meeting, he said. To a question on possibility of his meeting with Indian Commerce secretary during his stay, he clarified that he had come here to attend multilateral meeting of the Saarc, which is an annual feature.
He said Saarc countries have great potential for economic co-operation but unfortunately it could not be exploited. Efforts will be made to enhance such co-operation for the benefit of the people, he said. Suleman Ghani said the report of the meeting will be presented in the meeting of Commerce Ministers of Saarc being held in Colombo by the end of this month.
