'PPP determined to banish poverty'

Pakistan People's Party (PPP) is determined to banish poverty from the country and the poor segments are being assisted through the Benazir Bhutto Income Support Programme, said MNA Jamshed Ahmed Dasti here on Monday. He was addressing cheques distributing ceremony in connection with this project to provide financial assistance to deserving women.
The MNA said Shaheed Benazir Bhutto was a dynamic leader who enjoyed respect of the world community. "Her assassination shocked and saddened the whole world." Dasti said in line with the BB's aspirations, Party Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari had started the programme in her name to help the poor.
He said billions of rupees had been allocated to uproot poverty all over the country. He explained that the Party's next focus, after eliminating poverty, would be banishing ignorance, illiteracy and disease. Earlier, the MNA inaugurated the Mela (fair) of Khawaja Pir Di Aarri. On the occasion he said that such events afford opportunities for sustaining local culture and thus add substance to life.
