Chairman Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) Fakhar Zaman has said that academy is working on the biography of Faiz Ahmed Faiz which would be translated in six official languages of United Nation Organisation and Persian. He said that work on this project would be completed in three months.
He expressed these views on the function organised by the Pakistan Academy of letters in connection with the 98th birth anniversary of the poet on Friday. Fakhar said that Faiz is not the poet of the elite, he is the poet of the common man. He also said Allama Iqbal is the official poet of the country and Faiz is the national poet of the country.
He said as Urdu is the official language of the country and all the regional languages are the national languages of the country. He said an internal conference would also be held in Lahore in connection with the centenary celebrations of the great poet.
Veteran Journalist and Intellectual Hameed Akhtar shared his experiences about Faiz with the audience. He said that that he took the events in a casual way but this doesn't mean that he is not a serious person. He is a punctual man. He also said that Faiz gave a unique flavour to Urdu 'ghazal' and 'nazam' by harmonising modern sensibility and classical tone and promoted this genre throughout the world.
Senior Journalist Hussain Naqi said that Faiz's poetry globalise the message of sorrow of human being. He said that country should be loved as a beloved according to the philosophy of Faiz especially in these circumstances. Professor Afzal Tauseef, Professor Nabila Kiyani, Dr Saadat Saeed, Abid Hussain Abid, Altaf Ahmed Qureshi spoke, while Shujat Hashmi recited poetry of Faiz Ahmed Faiz on the occasion.
