Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan (EC) Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad said on Sunday that EC will publish final list of Senate contesting candidates on February 22. Talking to a private TV channel, he said "Candidates can withdraw their nomination papers on February 21 while the final list of the contesting candidates will be published on February 22."
He said polling will start on 0900 and will finish at 1600 hours. Punjab, Sindh, NWFP, Balochistan assemblies buildings and parliament house will be polling stations for Senate election, he added.
The Secretary said four provincial assemblies and national assembly will elect their respective Senators on March, 4. To a question Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad said returning officers will announce the result of the their elected Senators on the said day while the election will notify the result of successful Senators on March, 5.
To a question he said there are a total of 100 seats in the current Senate. The elections will be held on March, 4 to fill 50 seats to be vacated by the Senate members, who retired after the completion of their term on March 11. To another question he said like national and provincial assemblies candidates, contesting candidates for senate can spend Rs 1,500,000.
If any one spend more then the allocated amount it will be unlawful, he added. To a query, he said election commission can take action against candidates if some provides proofs against misconduct like horse trading and others.
