LEAs urged to eliminate theft of cycles

16 Feb, 2009

Cycle owners in the city have urged the implementation of a fool proof system by the law enforcement agencies, whereby the theft of cycles is eliminated in Karachi. In many cases, the cycle owners do not register loss of their cycle with the police because most owners of cycles say that the recovery of their cycle is very difficult.
In many cases, according to cycle owners, the cycle thieves dismantle the cycle after steeling it and sell the parts in the market. It may be mentioned here that an estimated six million cycles are used in Karachi by people for transportation. The price of a bicycle ranges from Rs 3,500 to Rs 18,000. Locally made cycles are in great demand in the market. Cycles are popular because of low maintenance costs.
