Welfare of special people: Gilani directs ministry to complete projects

Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has directed for early completion of projects initiated for the welfare of special people, saying that the Ministry of Social Welfare and Special Education should make efforts to complete the projects to give maximum relief to special people.
The Ministry should make provision of wheel-chairs at public places, particularly at recreation sites to facilitate mobility of physically disabled persons, the Prime Minister said while talking to Federal Minister for Social Welfare Samina Khalid Ghurki and Chairman Pakistan Baitul Maal Zamurrad Khan, who called on him here on Monday at PM House.
The Prime Minister asked them to make sure availability of funds for these development projects. The Minister for Social Welfare briefed the Prime Minster about the progress of the ministry and the measures taken for creating a system of social safety nets in the country.
She also briefed the Prime Minister about education programme for the special people under the ministry and said more branches would soon be opened to widen its scope to a larger part of the country. Zamurrad Khan informed the Prime Minister that Pakistan Baitul Maal was providing relief to the poorest of the poor in all parts of the country, particularly in the underdeveloped areas.
He briefed the Prime Minster on the 'Disabled Wheel Chair Project' under which some 2000 wheel chairs have been provided so far. He also apprised the Prime Minster on the Old Home Project, which is scheduled to start by April this year. Pakistan Baitul Maal will soon start special package for special people for their financial support and in order to make them professionally equipped in various vocational fields and studies, besides providing them hearing devices and artificial limbs, he informed. The Prime Minister directed that funds of Baitul Maal should be disbursed purely on merit and in a transparent manner.
