The Lahore High Court (LHC) has dismissed an application of PML-Q, MPA, Muhammad Ajmal requesting for staying the proceedings pending with the apex court against him about the matter of madarsas' degrees. President, PPP Punjab, Rana Aftab Khan filed a petition challenging the victory of Muhammad Ajmal from PP-63, Faisalabad.
Rana Aftab has sought disqualification of Muhammad Ajmal on the basis of having fake degree of a Masters. Petitioner alleged that Ajmal obtained a fake degree of Shahadat-e-Almia from Darul-Aloom Mehmoodia, Bannu equivalent to MA.
Ajmal had requested the court to stay the proceedings against him as decision about the madarsas' degrees was in pending before the apex court. At this the court had issued notice to the petitioner. On the application the petitioner's counsel argued that the proceedings in apex court could not affect the proceedings of the High court so the application of the respondent was liable to be dismissed. Aftab in his petition alleged that Ajmal obtained a fake degree of Shahadat-e-Almia from Darul-Aloom Mehmoodia, Bannu equivalent to MA. At the time of filing of nomination papers the same objection was raised before returning officer but it was dismissed, petitioner said.
He further said that the Wafaq-ul-Madaras had already been stated that the Darul-Aloom, in question, was not a recognised institution and certificate possessed by the respondent was bogus. Petitioner also contended that the Ajmal got 294,13 votes while he obtained 289,58 having a minor difference of 455 votes. He prayed to court to declare Muhammad Ajmal as disqualified and declare him as returned candidate.
