Drone attacks: PML-N files motion in National Assembly

20 Feb, 2009

PML-N MNAs have filed an adjournment motion in the National Assembly (NA) and sought debate on regular drone attacks on Pakistani soil after certain reports suggested that unmanned US predators were using Pakistani bases for launching attacks in troubled tribal areas.
Raja Muhammad Asad Khan, Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, Tahira Aurangzeb, Nuzhat Sadiq, Nisar Tanveer and some other MNAs of the PML-N filed the motion in the National Assembly secretariat. They said that US predators targeted the innocent civilians. These attacks have put the country's integrity at stake, they added. It was said that in the past drone attacks were carried out with implicit understanding between Islamabad and Washington.
The recent reports quoting senior US intelligence official suggested that unmanned predators were using Pakistani bases for carrying out attacks inside Pakistan. "These reports cannot be ignored as drone attacks are really affecting Pakistan's campaign against terrorism," they said. The MNAs requested the speaker to allow debate on this issue in the National Assembly so that the people and their representatives could know the factual position regarding the drone attacks.
