As the political and legal battle lines are being redrawn in the country, Pakistan Muslim League (N) Chairman Raja Zafar-ul-Haq has said "PML (N) will not accept decision of the Supreme Court, if it disqualified the party leader Mohammad Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
He was briefing newsmen about decisions of the top PML (N) leadership meeting at Sharifs' Raiwind residence on Thursday which was attended by Party Secretary General Senator Iqbal Zafar Jhaghra, Sar Anjam Khan, Tehmina Daultana, Pervez Malik, Mushahidullah Khan, Saeed Mehdi, Siddiqul Farooque and others.
Expressing concern over the on-going proceedings in the Supreme Court about disqualification of Sharif brothers to contest elections and hold public offices, Raja Zafar-ul-Haq argued that disqualification of Nawaz and Shahbaz was a deep-rooted conspiracy, which would be exposed in due course of time.
He contended that national life would be endangered if the Supreme Court disqualified the most popular leaders of the country. " For any eventuality we have formulated our strategy", he added.
Without naming the Punjab governor Salman Taseer, PML (N) Chairman said that some people are also conspiring and busy to destabilise Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif's government. However, he said "Shahbaz is successfully running the provincial government and there was no danger to his government".
He said the general council of the party is meeting here on Saturday which would be attended by the PML (N) MNAs, Senators, MPAs, central and provincial party office holders, district presidents and other office-bearers from all over the country. He said that the general council will take a decision about the party's participation in the lawyers' long march to Islamabad on March 11 and subsequent sit-in on the Constitution Avenue before the Parliament house.
He said his party favours dialogue with the people of tribal areas to bring about peace in the seven tribal agencies and Malakand division and other disturbed areas. "However we demand US must stop its drone attacks on the innocent people in the tribal areas immediately otherwise there would be no peace in Pakistan".
Sources told Business Recorder that the Supreme Court Bar Association President Ali Ahmad Kurd along with his team is meeting PML (N) leader Nawaz Sharif here on Friday to request him to declare his party's participation in the long march and the indefinite sit-in to press for restoration of Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry and other deposed judges of the superior courts.
Sources said that PML (N) has decided to take part in the lawyers' long march and the sit in but a formal announcement would be made in general council meeting on Saturday.
