Protection of natural resources to increase agricultural output stressed

Dr Muhammad Rashid Director General Agriculture (Research), Ayub Agricultural Research Institute (AARI), Faisalabad has emphasised the importance of protecting and improving natural resources for increasing agriculture production in the country.
He was speaking at the oath taking ceremony of Soil Society of Pakistan held at AARI, Faisalabad. Highlighting the importance of efficient use of farm inputs, Dr Muhammad said that use of brackish water for agricultural crops is a major problem faced by farming community.
He further stated that cost of farm inputs is sky rocketing and soil scientists should develop technology to use these inputs more efficiently and judiciously to reduce production costs. Dr Muhammad Rashid urged the Soil Science Society of Pakistan to play leading role in solving soil problems.
He asked the scientists to form working groups and guide the policy makers and agricultural research institutions in evolving research priorities and play their role in conservation and improvement of previous land and water resources. The President of Soil Society informed about the achievements of the society and stated that society had contributed significantly in the promotion of scientific research relating to all aspects of soil science.
