Rice exports register a decline

The export of Rice have registered a decrease of 2.84 percent during the first seven months of current fiscal year (July 2008-January 09) over the same period of last year, quantum wise, while earning of rice export in Pak currency has registered 139.66 percent increase during the same period due to high rates of international market.
In terms of US dollars, rice exporters have earned $1256,996 thousand dollars against export earning of $658,789 thousand of the same period of last year, July, 2007-January 08. According to official statistics, rice exporters have earned Rs 96,429 million during the first seven months of the current fiscal year by exporting 1283,363 Metric tones of rice against export earning of Rs 40,236 million of the same period of last year.
The statistics of Federal Bureau of Statistics showed that exports of Basmati rice registered an increase of 9.53 percent during July 2008-January 09 to 485,712 MT as against 536,857 MT of the same period of last year. In terms of rupee, rice exporters have earned Rs 50,402 million as against Rs 23, 411 million during the same period a year ago, showing an increase of 115.29 percent.
