Chairman, Pakistan Railways, Samiul Haq Khilji has directed Railways officials for improvement of tracks, signal system and locomotives and refurbishment of passenger coaches for ensuring punctuality of trains and provision of best facilities to travelling public.
Presiding over a high level meeting at Railways headquarters on Saturday, he directed to ensure fitness and cleanliness of passenger coaches and equipping those with all facilities including electricity, bulbs, water etc within fifteen days. He warned that strict action would be taken, if passengers complained about lack of facilities after this period. Further, he directed for carrying out a comprehensive plan for refurbishment of all passenger coaches and bringing them under a single colour scheme.
Giving briefing to the chairman, Railways officials told him about difficulties being faced in provision of various facilities, problems causing delayed in arrival of trains at their destinations and matters pertaining to repair and rehabilitation of passenger coaches.
During the meeting Divisional Superintendents and Principal officers briefed him about on-going projects in their concerned departments and told him about financial difficulties being faced by them. Matters pertaining to purchase of extremely essential items and provision of funds during the remaining five months of the current fiscal year were also discussed in detail to ensure running of the Railways in the best way keeping in view country's economic condition.
The chairman also directed for timely completion of various schemes being carried out under public Sector Development programme. The chairman felicitated Railways Women Hockey Team on winning Benazir Shaheed Hockey Tournament Gold Cup and gave cash prize of Rs 50 thousand.
