The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has de-notified Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif and declared his seat vacant. Chief Election Commissioner, justice Qazi Muhammad Farooq (Retd) on Thursday de-notified Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, who was declared as returned candidate from Punjab Assembly Constituency PP-48 Bhakkar-II, while declaring his seat as vacant.
The Chief Election Commissioner also recalled the Commission's notification of June 25, 2008, staying bye-election in NA-123 Lahore VI. Election Commission Secretary Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad, in a press release issued here, said that pursuant to the order, passed by the Supreme Court on February 25 in Civil Appeal No 166 of 2009 out of Civil Petition No 905 of 2008 (Syed Khurram Shah vs. Chief Election Commissioner and others), the CEC had de-notified Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, who was declared as returned candidate from the Provincial Assembly Constituency No PP-48 Bhakkar-II vide this Commission's Notification of even number, dated June 3, 2008.
Resultantly, the seat from constituency No PP-48 Bhakkar-II has become vacant with effect from February 25. The Secretary further said that pursuant to the order passed by the Supreme Court of Pakistan on February 25, in Civil Petition Nos.778-779 of 2008 and CMAs No 1674 & 1675 of 2008 in Civil Petition No Nil/2008 (Mehr Zafar Iqbal vs. Syed Khurram Shah and others), the Chief Election Commissioner had recalled this Commission's Notification of even number, dated June 25, 2008 whereby bye-election in Constituency No NA-123 Lahore-VI scheduled to be held on June 26, 2008 was stayed.
