Multan HCBA demands lifting of governor rule

28 Feb, 2009

The provincial administration of Punjab should be handed over to the newly elected leader of the provincial assembly, demanded President of the High Court Bar Association Multan (HCBA) Mehmood Ashraf Khan and General Secretary Rana Naveed Akhtar here on Friday.
He demanded that governor rule should be lifted forthwith, and also rejected the disqualification of Nawaz and Shahbaz Sharif. They were of the view that the judges appointed during November 3, 2007-December 15, 2007 under the Provisional Constitution Order (PCO) could not act freely, fairly and without any bias, a press release later issued by the HCBA said. Rejecting the short order by a bench of apex court, the press release said.
"It is an act of vendetta against those persons who declined to accept the PCO judges. It is very unfortunate that in the past the Supreme Court validated the constitutional deviations and extended legitimacy to military dictators under the garb of rule of necessity and has now disqualified two important political leaders of the second largest national party on sham grounds".
