Sindh Minister for Works and Services, Manzoor Hussain Wassan has urged the leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) to avoid issuing irresponsible statements in the best interest of the country and the people. In an interview to APP here on Monday the Minister said people attach high hopes to political leadership and they should not disappoint them by issuing irresponsible statements.
He said that it was a good omen that two major political parties by burying the politics of confrontation had committed to work together. Unfortunately the inflexible attitude of the PML-N leadership has hampered the progress in this direction, he added. To a question Wassan said that PPP favoured settlement of issues through dialogue and is prepared even to contest the case of Sharif brothers in the apex court.
He said the PML-N is a political force and its leadership should play its role in strengthening and stabilising the country rather than de-stabilising it. The Minister said that after the court decision the PPP leadership was expecting that Sharif brothers will contact it but they did not. "We were waiting for them but they opted to take the matter to streets", he added. The Minister said that President Asif Ali Zardari or the PPP had nothing to do with the decision of the Supreme Court against Mian Nawaz Sharif and Mian Shahbaz Sharif.
"The verdict is given purely on technical grounds, and it is the mistake of legal advisers of the Sharif Brothers, who could not plead the case effectively," he said. Wassan said that the PPP desired a strong and stable political system and it has already rejected the PML-N allegations that the verdict was announced under the influence of the Aiwan-e-Sadr. To another question, he said that said PPP efforts for reconciliation were undertaken after consulting with the President.
In this regard, the Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani had already invited Shahbaz Sharif for greater reconciliation and for working towards stability and security of the country. He said the Leader of the opposition criticised the government and the PPP set a positive trend by listening them without any prompt reaction.
He stated that the government has tried to avoid the politics of confrontation and promoted politic of reconciliation and it was decided in the meeting that the opposition would be given enough time to raise their issue. To a question, the Minister Wassan said that PPP leadership is not power hungry and if the PML-N proves its majority, they would be invited to form their government in the Punjab province.
The mutual differences can be settled through dialogue, he added. He hoped that PML-N leadership would join the national efforts to bring stability to the country. The governor's rule will end as soon as situation in Punjab is back to normal," he said, adding, "however, no one will be allowed to disturb the peace." He said that Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and democratic forces are not happy with the ineligibility of Sharif brothers. However it is a court verdict and we should not politicise it.
