A two-member high profile reconciliatory team called on Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif on Friday to take him into confidence on their interaction with President Asif Ali Zardari in connection with the efforts towards reconciliation between the two largest parties of the country.
The two-member team of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman and President Awami National Party (ANP) Asfandyar Khan Wali, who previously met PML-N leader on Wednesday (March 4), visited Nawaz Sharif at his Raiwind residence. They have taken the task of rapprochement between President Asif Zardari and Nawaz Sharif in a bid to avoid any harm to the democratic institutions.
Both the political magnates conveyed Presidents message to Nawaz Sharif. Both parties abstained from giving information about the meeting. Mian Shahbaz Sharif, Chaudhry Nisar Ali, Raja Zafarul Haq and Ishaq Dar were also present on the occasion.
Sources in the PML-N told Business Recorder that Nawaz Sharif refused any flexibility on his principle stance and made clear to both Fazl and Asfandyar that any reconciliation without a political reverse to February 25 position is impossible.
ANP chief Asfandyar Wali said that his party is against imposition of governors rule on the Punjab and wanted strengthening of present democratic institutions. He added that both the sides have agreed on negotiations and modalities would soon be finalised.
Both sides, according to sources, were unanimous that differences between the PML-N and PPP should be resolved while modalities in this regard are being finalised. It may be noted that ANP has demanded in the Senate session here on Friday that the federal government should immediately lift the governors rule from Punjab.
Talking to reporters, Fazl said that both the parties have agreed in principle to negotiate on conflicting issues. But he abstained from giving details of the meeting with Nawaz Sharif. He said both the parties wanted a solution to existing problems through talks. When his attention was drawn towards furious speeches, Maulana said negotiation tone is always different from that of public mood.
Nawaz also said that the PML-N is waging a struggle for the independence of judiciary. On the other hand, Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani called on President Asif Zardari and presented a report about his meeting with the PML-N President Mian Shahbaz Sharif at Yazman (Bahawalpur).
