Senate elections: all bids of horse-trading foiled, says Raisani

13 Mar, 2009

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Senator Nawabzada Lashkari Raisani on Thursday said the PPP and its allied parties had foiled all bids of horse-trading in the Senate elections which, according to him, was a major milestone in the countrys democratic history.
"The people of Pakistan want to give five years to the newly-elected government and the nation is not desperate," he said while talking to the journalists here at the Parliament House. He said it was a tradition of the senate that a technocrat is elected as Chairman Senate and the nomination of Farooq H. Naek was also in the same approach. Brushing aside all rumours of any intra-party rift over the nomination of Farooq Naek as a candidate for the slot of Chairman Senate, Raisani said proper consultation process was followed prior to the nomination of Farooq Naek.
