Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Dr Babar Awan has said that the efforts to hijack democracy in the name of lawyers movement will be foiled. Addressing a delegation of lawyers who met him at PIMS hospital on Thursday he welcomed the decision of Rawalpindi Bar Association to call off the strike and termed it democratic and wise decision.
Dr Babar Awan said after a long time democracy has gained roots in the country and some elements were trying to derail the democratic process. The minister said Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif were playing the politics of "divide and rule". They are not interested in the stability of the country rather they are trying to save the Raiwand Palaces.
He said PPP and democracy loving lawyers would thwart all the undemocratic and unconstitutional movements. Dr Babar Awan said when Swat peace agreement was signed the Raiwand group started long march which he termed general trunk road show and nothing to do with democracy and interest of the country.
He said Sharif brothers believed in politics of confrontation which was obvious from their past politics with General Jilani, Ishaq Khan, Farooq Leghari, General Janjua, Sajjad Ali Shah and Manzoor Watto. He expressed his determination to safeguard the parliamentary system of the country by all means.
