Elections are the important elements that contribute to any country. Since elections reflect nations choice regarding the leader, and particularly the youth; so the system of elections must promote the involvement of young generation. But unfortunately in Pakistan, the youth lacks spirit and activeness in this regard, which is not beneficial for the betterment of the country.
Majority of the youth is of the opinion that polling the elections is futile because the nominees/candidates are not eligible for the specified designation. In order to encourage participation of young generation, there should be an option of "None of these". This would at least entail that the people of the country want someone else to be elected for a particular designation.
Besides this, one of the reasons of non-participation of youth in elections is unawareness of the political and economic situation of the country, which makes the youths attitude unsupportive to the conducting of elections. The resolution to this lies in the inclusion of a course that highlights the current political, social and economic scenarios. This in turn will develop interest and support the builders of the nation.
Moreover, the unorganised way of handling the process of elections and the unpredictable law and order situation in the country are the major obstacles in youth involvement in elections. To overcome the indisciplined elections, the youth must be elected as volunteers in organising free and fair elections.Further transparency in elections is inevitable for encouraging youth to participate in elections.
These few but major steps will contribute to the election of a leader that reflects peoples choice and voice and this is what democracy is all about. As the great Quaid said, "Youth is the builder of the nation". So we must act upon this statement and fulfil our responsibilities towards our country and the dream of our founder.
