Implementation of CoD required to complete the agenda: Durrani

17 Mar, 2009

PML-Q Central Vice President Senator Muhammad Ali Durrani on Monday said the Shahbaz Sharif-led PML-N and PPP coalition government in Punjab should be restored. He asserted that the implementation of the Charter of Democracy (CoD) required completing the agenda.
This way the governors rule in the province could be lifted and "real democratic process" could take roots in the country, he told APP in an interview. Senator Durrani, former information minister, said the restoration of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and other deposed judges was a welcome sign.
However, he said the agenda completion would require implementation of the Charter of Democracy (CoD) vis-a-vis independent judiciary and stabilisation of the political process in the country. The restoration of deposed judges was an election promise made by the PML-N and PPP which they have finally fulfilled after almost one year and it is a good news for the nation, he added.
"The CoD would ensure independent judiciary and stable political process in the country in letter and spirit. Now both the parties should also materialise other promises they had made during their election campaign. They should also focus on resolving the issues being faced by the people including price hike, poverty, illiteracy and other social issues," he added.
Calling upon both the parties to go ahead together, Senator Durrani said the coalition governments of both the PPP and PML-N in the Centre and Punjab would be a good omen for the country and the leadership of both the parties should now proceed ahead to accomplish their real political agenda avoiding all sorts of confrontation and political bickering. This would ensure a strong and vibrant Pakistan in future, he added.
