Saddar police smashed an inter-district dacoits gang and arrested six gangsters, including the ring leader, after a shootout near here on Gujranwala road late on Tuesday. SSP Investigation Syed Ameen Bukhari told newsmen on Wednesday that on a tip-off a police party.
SHO Iftikhar Ahmed Warria, conducted a raid at the hide out of the criminals near Dheerde Morr on Gujranwala road where they were planning dacoity. When police tried to nab the dacoits they opened fire at them.
The shootout between them and police continued for an hour. However, the police succeeded in arresting the criminals identified as-Akhtar alias Akhtari (ring leader), Imran alias Mani, Zulifqar alias Zulfi, Shahbaz alias Pakhi, Anwar alias Neela Gujjar and Attique ur Rehman.
Police also recovered two klashnikovs and two rifles, one repeater rifle, two pistols and ammunition from their possession. The outlaws were wanted by police of various districts in Punjab in heinous crimes including dacoity, murders, kidnappings for ransom etc.
