Government committed to safeguard labour rights

District government is taking effective measures to safeguard the rights of bound labourers working at brick kilns across the district, stated Executive District Officer (Revenue) Abdur Rashid Razi. He was addressing a meeting of vigilance committee attended by Assistant Director Labour, Aftab Ahmed, Inspector Labour Latif Gill, Tahir Nasim and Farhana Firdous.
The EDO maintained that government was committed to eliminate bound labour and for this purpose it was collecting details and records of such labourers. " No body will be allowed to exploit poor labourers and their rights would be guarded at all cost", he claimed.
It was decided in the meeting that vigilance committee would visit different kilns to guage facts about the plight of labourers working there and also to make them aware of their rights. It was also decided that the vigilance committee would meet after three months to review the performance.
