Ghaffar Soomro promoted to BPS-21

Abdul Ghaffar Soomro, until recently Director General of Pakistan Standards & Quality Control Authority (PSQCA), has been promoted to BPS-21 and posted as Additional Secretary, Minority Affairs Division, Government of Pakistan. Soomro had a distinguished career spanning over 32 years service. He had his first posting as Deputy Commissioner, Nawabshah and Badin in 1986.
In 1993, he served as Commissioner, Mirpurkhas and Hyderabad. He also held the position of Secretary, Food & Co-operative, Housing Town Planning & Local Government, Agriculture, Livestock & Fisheries, Government of Sindh. During 2000-02, he was posted as Secretary, Industries, Labour, Commerce, Mines & Minerals and Technical Education, Government of NWFP.
He has also served as Director, Finance, Civil Aviation Authority, Karachi, Member, Finance, CDA, Islamabad, and Director General, Nara, during 2003-04. His longest stay was in PSQCA, from 2005 to 2009. During the last three years, under his expert guidance the image of PSQCA as national standards body (NSB), was revived both at national and international levels and made a vibrant organisation. PSQCA now has the distinction of being a member of such international organisations as ISO, IEC, OIML & WTO/TBT.
