President Asif Ali Zardari has welcomed the positive response of the PML-N leadership to the governments national reconciliation efforts as he and the Prime minister directed the Attorney General (AG) to evolve a joint strategy to pursue the review petition in Sharif brothers disqualification in consultation with the PML-N.
Following a meeting with the Prime Minister at Raiwind on Sunday, the PML-N leaders Mian Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif, agreed to jointly pursue the petition, already filed by the government, seeking a review of Supreme Courts decision to disqualify Sharif brothers.
Prime Minister Gilani apprised President Asif Ali Zardai about the details of his meeting with the PML-N top leadership here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr after the Pakistan Day investiture ceremony. The President and the Prime Minister also discussed matters pertaining to the forthcoming joint sitting of parliament.
According to an official statement, the Prime Minister called on the President in the Presidency on Monday and apprised him of the meeting he had with Mian Nawaz Sharif and Mian Shahbaz Sharif in Raiwind on Sunday. The Prime Minister informed the President that the meeting with PML-N leaders was positive.
The President appreciated the positive response of the PML-N leaders. President said he would welcome an end to politics of confrontation and looked forward to a positive outcome of the gestures for reconciliation. Prime Minister Gilani during his visit to Raiwind delivered a message of the President to PML-N Quaid and its leadership, to resolve all political issues on the basis of Charter of Democracy.
The Punjab situation was also discussed with the PML-N leaders, the PM informed the President. Prime Minister Gilani who made a great deal of effort in pursuing a policy of national reconciliation and greater political harmony said that the PML-N leadership has agreed to pursue the review petition jointly with the federal government to contest disqualification of Mian Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif.
