Attorney General and law officers meet CJP

A delegation of Law Officers of Pakistan led by Sardar Muhammad Latif Khan Khosa, Attorney General for Pakistan paid a courtesy call to the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. During the meeting matters relating to various constitutional, legal and human rights issues came under discussion.
In the meeting it was emphasised by the Chief Justice of Pakistan that the grievances of the litigant public should be redressed expeditiously. Furthermore cases pertaining to the government revenue shall be disposed off by the superior courts on top priority to ease out the financial crisis faced by the government especially tax-related matters.
The Attorney General for Pakistan also assured the Chief Justice of Pakistan that all the law officers, ie, Deputy Attorneys General, Standing Counsels and Federal Counsels shall assist the courts with complete vigour and dedication by putting on more efforts in fuller representation on behalf of the federation. The Attorney General for Pakistan also assured full co-operation of the government towards the noble cause of administration of justice.
On the directions of the Chief Justice of Pakistan it was also undertaken by the Attorney General for Pakistan that to alleviate the problems of the poor litigant public a committee shall also be constituted comprising Naheeda Mehboob Ellahi, Deputy Attorney General for Pakistan and Barrister Sehar Khosa, Consultant to Attorney General for Pakistan to arrange and provide the services of energetic, competent young lawyers for pleading their cases in the courts.
The Attorney General for Pakistan has also assured that the matter shall be taken with the government to allocate the funds in this regard at the earliest for the lawyers who shall render services to the poor litigant.
It was emphasised by the Chief Justice of Pakistan that backlog of cases shall be cleared without any delay by showing a positive change in the judicial system at the apex court. The Attorney General for Pakistan has assured complete co-operation to the Chief Justice of Pakistan in bringing about changes in the betterment and overhauling the judicial system wherever it is needed.
The meeting was attended by Naheeda Mehboob Ellahi, Deputy Attorney General for Pakistan, Shah Khawar, Deputy Attorney General for Pakistan, Agha Tariq Mehmood, Deputy Attorney General for Pakistan, Dil Muhammad Alizai, Deputy Attorney General for Pakistan, Muhammad Akhtar Awan, Standing Counsel, Raja M Aleem Khan Abbasi, Standing Counsel, Barrister Sehar Khosa, Consultant to Attorney General for Pakistan and Muhammad Naeem Arshad, Secretary, Office of the Attorney General for Pakistan.
The meeting lasted for an hour in the Committee Room of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Dr Faqir Hussain, Registrar, Supreme Court of Pakistan was also present on this occasion.-PR
