PML-Q Secretary General Mushahid Hussain Sayed has said the reconciliation between the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) would help the government take the country to new highs of development and progress.
"This is a step in the right direction and PML-Q welcomes the reconciliation between both the major political parties of the country," Mushahid told APP in an exclusive talk here on Wednesday.
"Reconciliation was the slogan adopted by the PML-Q leadership and both the parties - PPP and PML-N - have wisely adopted the advise given by PML-Q. My party would be happy to play a role of a robust opposition and would safeguard the rights of the people of Pakistan. This is the mandate given by the people and we would leave no stone unturned to do so," he said.
When asked whether his party would support any move to try former President General Pervez Musharraf (Retd) under treason charges, Mushahid said the notion was not prudent and the country needs to go ahead.
"We must bury the bitter past to move ahead. If we cling to the past, we would only waste our energies and vigour and such moves would damage the country," he added. "Let us move ahead as the country needs reconciliation and the people want relief. Let us focus on these issues, which are badly affecting the common public," he concluded.
