Information Secretary of Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) Ahsan Iqbal on Wednesday expressed the hope that President Asif Ali Zardari would announce a timeframe for implementation of Charter of Democracy (CoD) in his second address to the joint sitting of the Parliament on March 28.
Talking to journalists here, Ahsan said that it was the time to implement the landmark document, CoD, which was signed by PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif and late Chairperson of Pakistan Peoples Party Benazir Bhutto and his party was optimistic that President Zardari would announce a solid timeframe for its implementation in letter and spirit in his second address to the joint sitting of the parliament.
Ahsan further said that it was the need of the hour that all the political parties, particularly the government, should respect the February 18 decision, made by the masses for strengthening the democratic culture in the country. To a question, the PML-N leader said that the government of his party in Punjab was illegally ended, and hoped that the real judiciary, led by Iftikhar Chaudhry, would compensate what, he said, political and democratic loss to his party.
He said that the PML-N was working under the national agenda and wanted to bring a political and financial revolution in the country to strengthen the national institutions. He said that his party wanted to use national resources for the welfare and wellbeing of poor segment of the society to address their grievances.
