At least eight people were killed in bomb attacks in the Iraqi capital and around the country on Sunday, security officials said. Five civilians and a security guard were killed and seven others wounded when a bomb targeting oil installation guards exploded in the southern oil hub of Basra, police said.
In Baghdad, a civil servant working at the interior ministry was among two people killed when a magnetic bomb attached to a car blew up in the Sunni district of Adhamiyah. Eight other people were wounded by the blast in the former al Qaeda stronghold. Earlier on Sunday, at least 15 people were wounded in a car-bomb attack at a marketplace near the northern city of Mosul, police said. The attack took place in Al-Gayara.
