President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday lifted the governors rule in Punjab and the Cabinet Division has issued revocation of proclamation of February 25 for governors rule. "Whereas the President is satisfied that the grounds on which he issued the proclamation under Article 234 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, on the 25th February, 2009, have ceased to exist," says a statement issued here.
"Now, therefore, in pursuance of clause (1) of Article 236 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the President is pleased to revoke the aforesaid Proclamation," it said. On Monday, the President signed the advice moved by Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani to lift governors rule in the province.
Following the notification, Punjab Governor Salman Taseer has summoned the session of the provincial assembly on Wednesday at 4pm. Zardari, also Co-Chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party, had said the PPP would support the candidate of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) led by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif for the position of chief minister.
