Following the directions of the Election Commission of India, the Chief Electoral Officer, Jammu and Kashmir has asked all the TV channels and Cable networks to telecast, in occupied Kashmir the advertisements of political nature after taking prior permission and approval from the Committee of officers, constituted in the Election Department.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the Channels have been asked to inform the office of the Chief Electoral Officer in the occupied territory regarding the list of advertisements of political nature, which have been carried out by them till date without the approval of the Committee.
Further, the TV channels and Cable networks have also been asked to furnish the reasons regarding non-compliance of the directions of the Election Commission of India during the operation of Model Code of Conduct within two days, failing which, appropriate action will be initiated against them.
As per the ECI directions, a Committee of officers has been constituted to grant the certificate for broadcasting any advertisement of political nature. If any TV channel or Cable network telecasts any advertisement of political nature without permission of the Committee, it would amount to violation of the directions of the Election Commission of India for which they are liable to explain the reasons.
