Partly Facetious: Taseer an appointee rather than a politician

04 Apr, 2009

"So yet another reshuffle of Punjab bureaucracy!"
"That is a political compulsion."
"Can Taseer protect those he brought in for the duration when he was king of the castle."
"He is still king of the castle that is Governors House."
"But not beyond that."
"No but then was he ever king beyond the Governors House even when there was Governors rule in the Punjab!"
"Thats true - he couldnt deliver on anything: not on forming a PPP government in the Punjab, not on stopping the long march and certainly not on discrediting the Sharif brothers."
"So, a failure all round."
"Yes, and his head must roll."
"The PML (N) say they dont care whether he stays or not. He is after all considerably weakened and..."
"I think he weakened President Zardari."
"But the President doesnt think he has been weakened."
"No, he doesnt think so - at least rhetorically - and lets be honest neither does Taseer."
"So now what?"
"Now we wait for round two."
"So, confrontation with the PML-N-led Punjab government; possible if that is events become more propitious in future for the PPP to establish a government."
"Yes, but the only problem is the PPP decision makers are not able to assess whether events are propitious, if their past one-year-old history is anything to go by."
"Oh well miscalculations are a part of political life."
"Yes indeed, and political death."
"Right but then lets be honest Taseer never did have a constituency, he is an appointee rather than a politician."
"Right, but those who rely on public votes to gain power must not make these miscalculations again."
"I agree, but then what they should do and actually do are two different things."
