Five-day UVAS workshop concludes

The five-day training workshop of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore on Disease Outbreak Handling, Investigation and Reporting concluded on Friday. The Secretary, Livestock and Dairy Development, Muhammad Jehanzeb Khan and the Director, Institute of Continuing Education and Extension (ICE&E), Dr Salah-ud-Din distributed certificates among the participants on the closing day of the event.
The ICE&E of the UVAS in collaboration with the EUs Strengthening of Livestock Services Project (SLSP) arranged the ceremony. The SLSP Punjab Deputy Project Director, Dr Liaqat Ali, officers from Punjab Livestock Department and the UVAS faculty members were also present at the event.
Addressing the occasion, the Secretary Livestock urged the training participants to apply their knowledge and skills in their respective areas for the benefit of farmers. He suggested that the scope of such training programmes should be extended to district and tehsil levels to refresh and up date the knowledge and skills of the livestock professionals.
He lauded the role of the UVAS in training the manpower in livestock, dairy and poultry and other related areas. Dr Salah-ud-Din spoke about the objectives of the training programme and highlighted the training and extension services of the institute.
The participants were trained about the epidemiological aspects of disease control, tools of measuring diseases, surveillance and monitoring of diseases, disease control and eradication, disease outbreak handling and investigation of a disease outbreak through lectures, group discussions and lab exercises. Veterinary officers from Lahore, Sheikhupura, Okara, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Jhang, Faisalabad, TT Singh, Sargodha, Bhakkar, Mianwali, Bahawalpur, Khanewal, Multan, Muzaffargarh, Layyah, DG Khan, Chakwal and Gujrat participated in the training programme.
