President Asif Ali Zardari has said that Pakistan and Egypt needed to cooperate more closely in eradication of militancy and extremism. He stated this while talking to Magdy Mahmoud Helmyamer, ambassador of Egypt, who called on him at presidency on Monday.
The ambassador extended an invitation of Egyptian President Hosny Mubarak to President Asif Ali Zardari for participation in 15th Summit of Non-Aligned Movement (Nam) to be held in Sharm El Sheikh this year. The Nam summit will formulate stances towards global economic crises, food and energy security and issues of militancy and terrorism.
President Zardari while cordially accepting the invitation said that he would be pleased to participate in the Nam summit. He said that Pakistan would also like to benefit from the experiences of Egypt in desert irrigation and increasing agricultural productivity through hybrid seeds and sprinkle irrigation. He said that a delegation from Pakistan would soon be sent to Egypt to learn from their experience in water management.
The Egyptian ambassador said that bilateral relations between the two countries have further improved with the recent increase in bilateral trade. Egypt would be more than willing and ready to upgrade co-operation in fighting the menace of terror, he maintained.
He said that Pakistan has been a significant player in Nam and other forums of developing countries. "Egypt looks forward to President Zardaris participation in the summit to revitalise movement to focus on the problem of terrorism and militancy and also on financial and economic issues", he added.
