Scientists should plan projects to achieve economic stability

Dr Zafar Altaf, Chairman, Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) has said that Agricultural scientists should plan such projects which lead to achieve economic stability and prosperity in the country. He was presiding over a high level meeting attended by Technical Members of the PARC and leading scientists, held here at the its Headquarters.
The meeting was organised by Agricultural Linkages Programme (ALP) Secretariat, Directorate of planning to discuss and evaluate 6th Annual Progress Report 2008 and policy guidelines for future strategy. It is to be noted that Rs 1.3 billion were allocated for agricultural research in the country under US assisted Fund and from the same fund agricultural scientists are getting research projects on competitive basis.
ALP research projects are funded for three years. Under these criteria agricultural scientists have conducted research on 216 topics reflected in the 6th Annual Progress Report 2008 compiled recently by ALP Secretariat, Directorate of Planning, PARC while 65 research projects were in operation as on January 2009.-PR
